Jane’s Test Scores are Back.
We have been home educating Jane and her sisters from the beginning and when we moved to the state of North Carolina, we were required to have Jane Elizabeth tested for proficiency. She did pretty well. Her overall grade equivalency was a little more than 6th grade. She scored a little more than 6th grade in reading and academic skills, academic knowledge and letter-word identification. She scored mid 5th grade in math, calculation and applied problems. She scored 8th grade in spelling. She scored 7th grade in passage comprehension. She scored 9th grade in basic writing skills. Jane scored 10th grade in punctuation and capitals and in editing. For those of you who think I am tooting my own horn, I am not. I am merely demonstrating how a person or normal intelligence and no background in teaching can use solid curriculum, tailored to their child’s learning style and be successful. Jane spends roughly 2 hours a day on school at the age of 9 and spends the rest of her time playing and helping around the house. One on one tutoring is more efficient than classroom style education so that is all the time it takes.
